The Cause
Our mission, and how you can walk with us
Our Mission
To promote the cause of Archbishop Charles Heerey, C.S.Sp., the Father Founder of the IHM Sisters, towards his canonisation by the Church, because he lived a very holy life by practising the Christian virtues, especially humility and compassion, to a heroic degree.
He was an exemplary Christian leader in a very difficult era in Africa, and he stands as a model and motivator for African leaders in our contemporary society.
The Sisters He Founded
The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary are a Catholic women's religious institute founded in 1937 by Archbishop Charles Heerey, C.S.Sp., in Nigeria. The institute is engaged in pastoral, medical and social work, serving the people of God across three continents, with compassion for the poor, the homeless, the sick and those in need of education.
The Sisters are dedicated to the perfection of love in the service of God through the profession of the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty and obedience. They are known for their commitment to the education of children, care for the sick and underprivileged, family life, retreats and marriage counselling. Their charism is compassion, reflecting the Gospel vision of Christ.
